I’ve been trying to figure out a lighting scenario for my show Thursday at West Chester University. It’s indoors in the ballroom at the Sykes Student Union, so I know the room will be lit, but I don’t have a lot of experience with indoor shows. I know the importance of lighting especially indoors, but since the vast majority of my shows were outdoors, I never really worried about it until now.

I’ve looked online at so many different types of lights, and also have the concern of perhaps not being near an electrical outlet, that I was ready to give up and hope for the best. However, while at Barnes and Noble today, I was looking at the reading accessories and saw the little clip-on reading lamps – and a lightbulb (pun intended) went off. The lights are super-small, come with an attached clip and run on AAA batteries – what could be better? I bought one to try and I think it will do the trick, at least until I can find something that really will do the job. The light clips on to my wrought iron earring display, and the light is very flexible so I can play with moving the lamp to best light the display.

feeling very accomplished

I feel like I’ve gotten quite a lot done from my list of goals posted earlier this week. Today I chose designs and photographed them for a possible slide show for the new website and I filled out and mailed 2 craft show applications. Looking at some of my groups on flickr today also has me adding something else to my list: working on coming up with a blueprint for my craft show setup – every time I do a show, I set up the display a little differently – I really need to come up with a setup that has maximum impact without taking up the entire booth space.

Restaurant Festival

Thought I’d do this before I fall asleep – spent the day outdoors at the Chester County Restaurant Festival in West Chester. We were very lucky, the weather cooperated and it was a lovely day with the smell of Jimmy John’s hotdogs grilling and all kinds of other mouth-watering scents and tastes. I saw several friends today, a couple I hadn’t seen in years – the Restaurant Festival is always like that. Set up my booth, with the help of my good friend Tammy, and she took a couple of pictures for me.

We discovered that the banner needs a better method of hanging – I wanted to hang it behind me from the booth frame, but the center supports made it bunch up, so thank goodness for packing tape – a down and dirty, but successful method for displaying the banner. I didn’t eat much of the food today, but my friend Nancy brought apple cider donuts that were still warm and Tammy found delicious cupcakes from Cupcakes Gourmet.

I was also very fortunate in my vendor neighbors – Jean the interior designer and Chris the frontman for beautiful Nicaraguan pottery. Had a good time today, everybody was in a good mood, and the Eagles were winning as we were packing up for the day.

I think I’ve finally recuperated after the excitement of the show on Saturday. I forget from year to year how exhausting and exhilarating doing a show can be. I didn’t post yesterday – I spent the day filling my show supplies with the things I’d forgotten to take on Saturday, and working on a custom order I received on Saturday, with a little expedition to the Exton Mall. I ordered a banner today, so that I can (hopefully) attract more potential customers to my booth. My next big task is to set up booth displays and photograph them for show applications. I do have some photos of my booth at various shows, but they are usually done on the fly, they’re not the best representation of my work.
